The Smart City Expo World Congress was just kicked off in Barcelona this morning. The world’s leading event for cities aims to empower cities by bringing together all major stakeholders and helping them collaborate across borders. The Hague-based startup Savana Solutions, last year’s participant in governmental accelerator program Startup in Residence, is representing the Netherlands at the congress this week. We checked in with them to hear their latest.
Launch of MyClean City in The Hague As part of the Startup in Residence program of the municipality of The Hague, startup Savana Solutions has been working on its mobile application MyCleanCity. The application enables residents to work together towards a cleaner city. Savana Solutions is now preparing to launch the app on 24 January, with the kick-off of its pilot project in The Hague's Laakkwartier.

Indian Prashant Shukla (33) comes from a family that fellow villagers come to when they run into a problem. Prashant continues this family tradition today in The Hague, where he has been living for nine years now. As a business intelligence specialist, he looks for digital solutions for a wide variety of issues. For example, he set up a Facebook group for lonely expats (with more than 31,000 participants) and is developing an app to reduce the litter lying around in The Hague.
Last year, the first edition of The Hague's accelerator programme Startup in Residence was launched. The program is inspired by the idea that startups are perfectly positioned to come up with entirely new solutions to recurring problems. In this edition, a mobile application has been developed to create a cleaner city.
My Clean City App is working together with the municipality of The Hague on some of the waste solutions, the city is facing. Prashant, founder of the startup always felt close to his hometown community back when he was living in India. People looked after each other and there is lots of interaction.
